They will break even if the compatibility libraries are there. (C++ ABI 
issues). These apps will be made gcc 3.x compliant very soon by their 
respective vendors since both Mandrake and RedHat are migrating to 3.x.

It will and Mandrake will not be the only distro suffering from this in 
the short term. Just put off upgrading until the comercial vendors offer 
compliant products. This is not Mandrake's "fault", rather it is because 
of gcc. Irritating, yes, needed, yes.
