Hi,

There are some problems with the pcmcia subsystem.

First problem - when using a PCMCIA modem, if the modem is in when the
machine is booted, it will show up as "busy" when one tried to use it.
Unloading and reloading the serial_cs driver frees it up ok.

Second but related problem - if the modem is EJECTED without unloading the
module first, the kernel interup handler will crash about 50% or more of the
time. The machine will lock up solid (power off required). If one ejects
the card while in a console (not in an x session) the messages go by very
fast, followed by a long list of scrolling numbers..

Third problems - PCMCIA network controllers. The system will hang on
shutdown until the card is ejected. The hang is in the routines where the
network is being brought down - no error message, just a hang. Ejecting the
card will allow the system to complete shutdown successfully.

These problems have been there a while. Unfortunately I didn't record which
kernel versions / pcmcia versions were the last to work (sorry). The network
controller one I've been figuring was harmless enough so I haven't really
made much noise over it.. but now that we're working on a new release, maybe
the pcmcia related code needs a look?

What files / additional info can I send and to whom?

        Regards,

        Vinny
