During install, if both the modem and local network(nic) are configured, and a gateway is entered for the nic, the modem internet connection (kppp) wont work even if it is chosen as the default.
To fix the problem, I have to edit /etc/sysconfig/network and delete the Gateway(last) line and restart the network service or reboot.
