Mandrake's kinput2 is not easy to use. In Mandrake: XIM ON: shift+space XIM OFF: shift+\ How to input Japanese "n": type "n"
Most distributions: XIM ON: shift+space XIM OFF: shift+space How to input Japanese "n": type "nn" -- Mandrake use only Wnn as Japanese IME, but Canna is also good.(I think Canna is better than Wnn!) So I did it like this: Get these packages from ftp://ftp.jaist.ac.jp/pub/os/linux/Vine/Vine-2.5/i386/Vine/RPMS/ libwnn6-3.0-7.i386.rpm libwnn6-devel-3.0-7.i386.rpm libcanna-3.5b2-39.i386.rpm Canna-3.5b2-39.i386.rpm Canna-devel-3.5b2-39.i386.rpm kinput2-canna-wnn6-v3-14.i386.rpm 1: install packages EXCEPT kinput2*. # rpm -Uvh filename.rpm 2: uninstall kinput2 in Mandrake # kpackage look for "kinput2", then uninstall it. 3: install new kinput2 # rpm -Uvh kinput2-canna-wnn6-v3-14.i386.rpm 4: after reboot your machine, type # kinput2 -canna then you can use better Japanese-Input. (I don't know how to start kinput2 with this option on startup.) *Vine Linux homepage http://vinelinux.org/index-en.html *src.rpm is here: ftp://ftp.jaist.ac.jp/pub/os/linux/Vine/Vine-2.5/SRPMS/SRPMS/ I hope (yes,I hope it!) Mandrake use these packages.
