Mattias, Not quite sure this is the answer you are looking for but this might help. I use Star Office to edit word files. You can download it at www.sun.com how ever if you get the newest version 6.0 you have to pay $75.00 but you can still download 5.2 and use it for free that's what I still use. And for a selecting a default application to edit word Documents with I believe after you select a program once it Mandrake will associated with that program till you change it. I don't have my Mandrake box with me at the current time being hope this helps
