Sat down to watch a DVD today and noticed playback was terribly jerky. Thought for a while about what was causing it, and eventually nailed it; hdparm revealed that neither my DVD drive nor my CDRW drive had been set to DMA transfer mode. I never checked this directly in 8.2, but DVD playback was smooth when I ran it, so presumably this was being set automatically in 8.2.
So, can someone tell me where Mandrake sets hdparm settings on boot, so I can fix this on my PC 'nicely'? And is this a bug or just a settings change? -- adamw
