I'm trying to do this at the moment, too. Beta3 has version 3.1.31 of the
pcmcia package, which doesn't support the Linksys WPC11. I downloaded 3.2.0
from
   http://pcmcia-cs.sourceforge.net
last night, but I haven't gotten it to install correctly yet.

There has always been overlap between this package and the kernel pcmcia
support. The docs with the package have always implied that the kernel stuff
is a generation behind (kind of like GNU Ghostscript), and the trick was to
turn enough pcmcia on in the kernel to wake it up, but not enough to get it to
generate the same modules that the package generates, specifically the drivers.

I haven't found the magic balance for 3.2 yet. It now detects that you asked
for PCMCIA in the kernel, and decides that you don't need it to generate any
drivers. The configuration script has a --force option that will force driver
generation, though According to syslog, cardbus is starting correctly and
recognizes both the WPC11 and the generic modem card I have, but if I try to
manually insmod hermes.o, orinoco.o, and orinoco_cs.o, I'm told by orinoco_cs
that the card services release does not match. I'm about to look into this,
but I assume at this point that MDK put the card services utilities someplace
earlier in the path than the pcmcia-cs package did and that I'm picking up the
old utilities.
