Hum, can't reproduce here. Any chance you're using mp3's with
strange/special bitrates?

Certainly doesn't look good. The kernel should recover from such
a situation (either the application would segfault when there is
no more memory (because results of malloc's are not well checked)
or starting with 2.4 the OEM killer kills chosen processes).
