Hello,

I have been away on holiday and my mail box was filled by the 15th !! So I
appologies if this has already appeared on this list.

It appears that some DevFsd devices are not assigned until accessed manually.

Assuming that makes no sense at all :-) here's what I mean

At boot the message "Mounting local file systems.... /dev/hdc no such device
appears". The CD-ROM remains unmountable until
/dev/ide/host0/bus1/target0/lun0/cd is accessed in some way (ls is enough)
but 'cd' has to be added by hand since after a boot all that actually exists
is /dev/ide/host0/bus1/target0/lun0.

Another example.
I have to run Xine with the sound "driver" assigned to "null" (xine -A null).
Once it is up and running the "device" setting in the "Audio" tab can be set
as "oss" (or whatever). Then exit Xine and re-run without the -A option and
all works well.

Hope this isn't too out of date,
Owen
