This one is serious. XFdrake is seriously broken.
<http://olo.office.altkom.com.pl/domowa/qa/mandrake/beta4/upgrade_8.2-beta4/XFdrake_fails_to_store_configuration/>
My Hardware:
Video card: S3|86C368 (Trio3D/2X) 4MB
Monitor: Samsung Samtron 55E
During the upgrade from 8.2 (where XFree 4.2 were working fine) to 9.0
beta4 XFdrake failed to persist the configuration.
It also fails when it is run manually from the installed system. The
steps I go through:
1. run XFdrake
it shows:
Graphic Card [ Custom ]
Monitor [ Custom ]
Resolution [ 0bpp ]
[ Test ]
[ Options ]
[ Quit ]
[ OK ]
2. select Graphic Card: "Vendor|S3|86C368 (Trio3D/2X)"
(XFdrake preselects it, so it properly detected it)
3. XFdrake shows:
Which configuration of XFree do you want to have?
[ XFree 4.2.0 ] [ XFree 3.3.6 ]
4. select "XFree 4.2.0"
5. select memory size "4 MB"
5. select Monitor: Plug'n Play "(Samsung Samtron 55(M)E (Plu"
6. Select resolution "800x600 32bpp" (XFdrake preselects it)
7. Press "OK".
8. XFdrake shows this message:
------------------------------
Keep the changes?
The current configuration is:
XFree 3.3.6
Keyboard layout:
Mouse type:
Monitor:
Graphics card:
Color depth:
------------------------------
9. Select "Yes"
After that, the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file contains only the Monitor
section:
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "monitor1"
