Because ACPI for linux is considered immature, Mandrake has not yet
included the full ACPI patch, but if you should try to merge it in
by hand, you will find out that a number of components of it have
been included already. I have spent many days hand merging ACPI
patches into the Mandrake kernel. I used to put up a patch of my
own on the web, that would cleanly patch Mandrake kernel for ACPI,
but haven't done it since early June. :^( (It was too much work,
and because of bad ACPI hardware support on my HP laptop, I never
had good results with it. I was happy to convince Juan Quintela to
include a two-line patch that is enough to make sound work on those
HP laptops without having to patch the kernel, but it still requires
a re-build of the kernel.)
