Hi Juan, I just tested with a stock 2.4.19 kernel, and the problem doesn't go away, in fact it gets slightly worse, my temporary solution to ssh in and run toppler doesn't even work. I believe this is an XFree86 bug, but Frederic has released a new package, and I will let you both know how it goes as soon as I get my hands on it.
