Hi Thierry,
[as current packager of drakxtools] I have packaged up the configuration files and utilities for the prism2 (linux-wlan-ng) drivers which Juan includes with the Mandrake kernel. I think these will be required for getting drakconnect to properly configure these drivers. The source RPM (built against 9b4) is here: http://users.erols.com/peromsik/prism2-utils-0.1.14-1mdk.src.rpm I intend to make drakconnect configure these drivers myself, but I'm pretty busy so if someone else gets to it first, I won't complain. I can offer advice if someone wants to do it and I don't get to it first. It shouldn't be too hard to just look in the README file and do it. Just let me know. Also let me know if you take the prism2-utils package into cooker, so I can remove it from my limited web space. It should be safe to take it since I have set it up just to install things and not to activate anything, leaving that eventually for drakconnect. Aside from the bits about drakconnect recognizing the cards and configuring the drivers, there's a long-standing issue about PCMCIA network cards with multiple available drivers. For most wireless cards, /etc/pcmcia/config contains mostly settings for using wvlan_cs. However that driver does a pretty lousy job with the cards I've tried it with. It seems to me that /etc/pcmcia/config in each section could list all drivers known to sort of work with each card, mostly commented out except for the one which is thought to work best. Then in expert mode drakconnect could let the user choose which driver to use. Just a thought. For example, "Intersil PRISM2 11 Mbps Wireless Adapter" might look like this: card "Intersil PRISM2 11 Mbps Wireless Adapter" manfid 0x0156, 0x0002 # bind "orinoco_cs" # bind "prism2_cs" bind "wvlan_cs" And then drakconnect would let the user choose which driver to use, uncomment it, comment the others, and continue setting parameters for the chosen driver. Just a thought. -- Aaron Peromsik <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ----[For thinner oatmeal, add more water.] | Will this one actually show up on the cooker list? Time will tell, | but the last two didn't. ----------------------------------------[For thicker oatmeal, add less water.]
