 bradenm : 04/09 07:58 : Incident created
Here are my initial observations of Mandrake 9.0RC 1:

-There is no description for the "plun-n-play()" option in
XFdrake, and when I use it with my Envision monitor, I get
these errors:
(EE) NV(0): No valid modules found
(EE) Screen(s) found but none have a usable configuration

-The package update at the end of the install is confusing.

-Upon first boot I saw kdm, but after five seconds went to
vc/1.

-CDROM drive access in rpmdrake/supermount takes F O R E V E
R when the tray is empty--over 2 min. This has been around at
least since 8.2, and really needs fixing!

-No OK button on console helper - may be confusing for newbies
-Inconsistency: K Menu > Configuration > Mandrake Control
Center uses kdesu, not consolehelper.

-drakboot 1.1.9-27mdk does not show LILO entries

-drakfirewall has no success screen

-No Keramik / Crystal !!

-Default GTK theme is ugly with no Gnome installed

-rpmdrake does not show package changelogs/files

-new KDE doesn't start that fast

-Dynamic Desktop needs diskdrake to be configured first ??
Diskdrake is slightly buggy with this.

_________ Fixed bugs: __________________
-KDM does not show LILO menu
-No change in icons with mouse hover in drakconf
-Drakconf doesn't open with my CD burner
_______

On the positive side:

-New bootsplash, KDM icons, wallpaper, menus, overall mdk
theme looks awsome!
-New drakconf is great!
-New rpmdrake is also good
-It's really helpful how consolehelper "remembers" the root
password for a while
-Did I mention the new artwork rules?

When I plug in my HP Photo Smart 318 Digital Camera as a
USB-Storage device, it only comes up on the desktop when I
run diskdrake or try to open /mnt/removable. Then, the first
time, I can browse into the dir fine. However, if I turn it
off, the icon stays until I probe /mnt/removable again.
The second Time I plug it in, it says "No access rights to
this location" after probing /mnt/removable to make it
appear. As root it gives an I/O error.

_Also:_
I can't get Anti-Aliasing in KDE.

One more note :)
There is no skeleton usermin configuration file.
Also, Mandrake should develop a better webmin theme that
matches drakconf closer.
