Maybe it mounts devfs over the dev, just for the time when it is run, and there are no loop devs on that devfs?

It leaves terminal control characters in the stream, you're probably seeing them. They are OK there. >If you could find out what's wrong exactly with your loopback devices >(using losetup, eg: losetup /dev/loop0) > I'll try, but currently I don't have access to that machine. OK, I'll try (but don't promise anything, I'll have to upgrade the machine again, don't know whether I'll have time...) >PS: >http://olo.office.altkom.com.pl/domowa/qa/mandrake/9.0/rc1/upgrade_beta4-rc1/attempt2/drakx/ > seems broken > OK, I've deleted it. It was full of garbage (probably resulting from ReiserFS suffering sudden power-out during installation attempt 1? nut why in attempt 2 which was completed cleanly?) BTW, the release preparation is moving too fast, I think that September is too early for release of 9.0 final. Quality release is more important that a deadline (I'd like to voice that opinion as a Mandrake supporter, tester and silver MandrakeClub member). -- Olo GG#: 274614 ICQ UIN: 19780575 http://olo.office.altkom.com.pl
