Well, considering that 3 and 5 are the same, except for X, it makes perfect sense to just add the dm startup to run level 3 - especially if you don't use a font server. OTOH, since Solaris "steps through" the run levels to the target run level, adding a higher run level is easy... all you have to add is the new service to start in that run level.
