----quoted text below----

 taupter : 08/09 09:02 : Incident created MDK9.0rc1
doesn't create the character devices when I unplug a CD-ROM
(/dev/hdc) and put a HD (/dev/hdc too). As it seems to use
devfs by default, maybe it should be nice if it found the
newly attached HD and generated the character devices
accordingly. The same occurs when, let's say, I install rc1
with an HD plugged as /dev/hdc and I unplug it and plug a LD
32x10x40x CD-RW burner after installing (daily use). In this
case it is not recognized, and the SCSI emulation needed to
enable the burning functionality doesn't even get up, too,
and here's no meaningful way to start ide-scsi on it, so the
only fix I see is reinstall... Painful.
Besides that, rc1 seems pretty on the way, and I'm
downloading rc2 to give it a try. I installed 8.2 after some
years poking on Debian, and Mdk is my distro of choice since
then.
If I just had an international credit card or another way to
join the Mandrake Club... Mandrake deserves every dollar I
would send to it, being this nice company and improving the
Linux experience this way.
