These are kernel bugs/problems that are caused when some app eats up a bunch of RAM and it starts swapping to disk, thereby eating up all the CPU and nearly crashing the machine. It could be a memory leak in OpenOffice, although that would be weird. How much RAM do you have? Did you have anything else running? -- -- Igor
