I was getting ready to add the required info to the hotplug configurations so that it would automatically bring up the usb networking when I plugged it in. Turns out that it works already :) It doesn't recognize the device explicitly, but the scripts have enough intelligence to basically call 'ifup usb0' which makes it all work properly. Here is what the logs show: Sep 18 11:56:43 fiji /sbin/hotplug: invoke /etc/hotplug/usb.agent () Sep 18 11:56:44 fiji /etc/hotplug/net.agent: invoke ifup usb0 Sep 18 11:56:47 fiji /etc/hotplug/usb.agent: Setup acm for USB product 4dd/8004/0 Sep 18 11:57:13 fiji kernel: usb-uhci.c: process_transfer: fixed toggle With debug turned on: Sep 18 12:14:02 fiji kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on bus2/1, assigned device number 7 Sep 18 12:14:02 fiji /sbin/hotplug: arguments (net) env (OLDPWD=/ PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin ACTION=register PWD=/etc/hotplug SHLVL=1 HOME=/ INTERFACE=usb0 DEBUG=yes _=/bin/env) Sep 18 12:14:02 fiji /sbin/hotplug: invoke /etc/hotplug/net.agent () Sep 18 12:14:03 fiji /sbin/hotplug: arguments (usb) env (DEVFS=/proc/bus/usb OLDPWD=/ PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin ACTION=add PWD=/etc/hotplug SHLVL=1 HOME=/ DEVICE=/proc/bus/usb/002/007 PRODUCT=4dd/8004/0 TYPE=2/0/0 DEBUG=yes _=/bin/env) Sep 18 12:14:03 fiji /sbin/hotplug: invoke /etc/hotplug/usb.agent () Sep 18 12:14:03 fiji /etc/hotplug/net.agent: invoke ifup usb0 Sep 18 12:14:06 fiji /etc/hotplug/usb.agent: Setup acm for USB product 4dd/8004/ For a sneak peak at the HOWTO (in MandrakeUser.Org format), please view http://us.mandrakesoft.com/zaurus and give me feedback on your results. It is working very well for me, but only on the current Cooker. It does not seem to work on 8.2, but that could be limitations of my own hardware (or the gcc version issue). Blue skies...
