I just completed a fresh install using RC3. This is now the 4th version of mdk 9.0 I have installed (betas 2 & 4, RC 2 and 3). Other than a few minor hitches in the earlier versions I have found nothing much to complain about. (Yes .. rpmdrake has improved dramatically... I still don't really like it having been separated into several tools.) This time the install was flawless. Everything worked the first time. Even swat, for which I used to have to make some adjustments, now works right out of the box. OpenOffice came up and it even had my old configuration ( I save /home of course). Both KDE and Gnome seem to work well. I spent most of my time in KDE so I can not say too much about Gnome really. Both Mozilla and Netscape 7.0 work. All aspects of drakconfig that I have tested work well. Network, Internet (obviously) and all partition sharing work well. I just copied a saved copy of my old fstab into /etc to get everything working as in the past. Openssh into the other linux system on my network (mdk 8.2) works. So far I have not found a problem.
btw ... It took me a total of about an hour to install. I was doing other things around the house while it did it and I only needed to be here to change the Cd once. I am up and running with EVERYTHING working within oh about 3 hours of total work. That has to be the fastest I have done a fresh install and reconfigure. True I am getting much better at it with all the practice but still I am amazed. Great Work!! kim -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Registered Linux user #264340 Mandrake Linux 9.0 rc3 - Kernel 2.4.19-13mdk XFree86 4.2.1 - KDE 3.0.3 and Gnome 2.0
