The thing I like most in Free, OpenSource Software is that deadlines
aren't so critically important, that quality of software weighs more
than releasing when planned. This "it will be released when it is ready"
attitude is what gives OSS the high quality it is famous for.
Huug, believe me, it's better for you to wait a few more weeks than
waste your nerves because of some annoying bugs. You don't need all
those new features _that_ bad. Respect your health.
In my opinion, it's too early for 9.0 final - I've tested all betas and
RC's, reported lots of bugs, and I feel that there are just mnay more
than when 8.2 was released.
As an experienced user, I can circumvent all those problems by myself,
but I'm worried about all newbies that try out Mandrake. They may get
burnt and never return.
My opinion is confirmed by many reports concerning RC3 - just look
through. People see serious bugs, and most of those weren't present in
8.2 (e.g. /dev/psaux zapped during install - devfsd issue (yes I've seen
it too on a clean test upgrade from 8.2 - it's missing), scsi tape drive
problems, SB Live not working, Flash drive not working, ATI 8500DV with
a simple fix that no one had enough time to implement through betas and
RCs, supermount corrupting msdosfs on floppies since 8.2).
So I'd like to ask Mandrake folks: is there any chance that the most
serious of those bugs get classified as showstoppers, and there's one
more round (RC4) before the release (two weeks later, possibly), with a
strong version/feature freeze?
Please, don't release early, release correctly.
