 car2880 : 20/09 09:00 : Incident created Product
\'Mandrake Linux 9.0 RC 3\'

My install has just failed for the 5th time. (Not to mention
the dozen failed

installs with the beta.)

I don't have the list of packages that I had chosen for these
failures,

because the package list save requires a formatted floppy
(Why? mkfs.vfat is

there!).

1:

- Hang w/ about 70 packages left. "dynamic" rpm was the last
one

2:DrakX should not have to clean the packages shit. Killing
...

/usr/lib/gconf

bad package ORBit

during the bootsplash rpm install

"Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference"

- Hang w/ about 15 packages left.

3:

- Questionable error message: "DrakX should not have to clean
the packages

shit. Killing ... /usr/lib/gconf

bad package ORBit"

during the bootsplash rpm install

"Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference"

Hung on unmount filesystems. "Failed to unmount some
filesystems."

I rebooted, and was greeted with this error after booting
linux-secure

"Uncompressing Linux

crc error

--- System Halted"

The other lilo choices failed as well

I rebooted with the bootdisk I created during the install.

"This is not a bootable disk. Please insert bootable floppy".

4:

I try the auto (replay) install floppy I created.

Spins through and stops at DrakX. My USB Wheel mouse is not
configured, and

so I'm not confortable continuing. So I reboot.

5:

Repeat installation with package list from install. (I used
mkfs.vfat manually

from a tty)

Same results as installation #3.

My system is a home-built EPOX 8KHA/1.4 Athlon/768 Meg
ram/100gig WD1000BB

My partition table looks like this:

94 meg /

94 meg (future)

94 meg (future)

94 meg (future)

200 meg /boot

380 meg /swap

Remaining is LVM

LVM:

4 gig /usr

4 gig /var

4 gig /home

Previously I had RC2 installed (after numerous other issues),
but after a

hang/reboot/filesystem check/lost files under /var, I decided
to wait for

RC3.

So, any ideas?
