Mandrakesoft made for us urpmi, one of the best tools for managing rpms. Let's
use it ! I have done these contrib CDs myself :

I have downloaded the entire contrib directory and burned it on 2 CDs (a total
of about 1.1Go !) Then I added as usual :
urpmi.addmedia "Contrib CD1" removable://mnt/cdrom
urpmi.addmedia "Contrib CD2" removable://mnt/cdrom

After a long time (about 20/30 min per CD !) I have a contrib media that allows
me to install a lot of softwares and to solve dependencies with the plf packages
(for example, you need liba52 when installing mplayer).

Of course it would be better to freeze an "official" contrib for 9.0, but this
method works very well, especially since cooker packages are still frozen (even
if some contrib packages have been updated today.)

Another way would be to use urpmi.addmedia Contrib ftp://blabla with
synthesis.hdlist2.cz to have a download by ftp. Since I have just a 56K modem, I
prefered the first solution, downloading the entire contrib directory at my work
and burning it on CD. Moreover, ou are sure to keep one working copy of these
packages until cooker is "defrost" and receives unstable/broken packages for the
next version.

Hope this helps.

BTW : what is the difference between a hdlist.cz file and synthesis.hdlist.cz file ?
