I covered this in the parent message.  Primary devices were identified 
as the Voodoo3, the Brooktree TV card, and the motherboard sound chip.

That's why I removed the Brooktree and tried again - no change.   The 
BIOS or motherboard have no way of disabling the integrated sound. 
There is no motherboard video.

I'll try adding the BusID tomorrow - but if it is needed, why didn't the 
XFree people or Mandrake add it?   Remember the X test in the 9.0 
installer works perfectly, so what did Mandrake do, but neglect to put 
in the generated XConfig-4?    And so there ought to be lots of people 
with this problem...
