I think this one was causing you problems because (I guess:) your speakers are attached to the rear channel .Rear channel works on a different mixer channel, which is, silly enough, muted by default. Yes perhaps, the bigger problem is that it seems to give users the idea there is only 1 or 2 drivers, while actually there are 2 or 3.
