Hi,

I have troubles with "Dynamic mount of USB devices"... (at least
understanding exactly how it is supposed to work).

I've got 2 devices:
   - one USB hard drive 6Gb (formatted using vfat)
   - one digital camera Sone DSC-F505

1) I boot up my box with both devices switched off
2) #ls -la /dev/sd*
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           33 Oct  3 19:22 sda ->
scsi/host1/bus0/target3/lun0/disc

sd:
total 0
drwxr-xr-x    1 root     root            0 Oct  3 19:18 ./
drwxr-xr-x    1 root     root            0 Jan  1  1970 ../
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           36 Oct  3 19:22 c1b0t3u0 ->
../scsi/host1/bus0/target3/lun0/disc

3) I switched on the USB hard drive
4) #ls -la /dev/sd*
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           33 Oct  3 19:22 sda ->
scsi/host1/bus0/target3/lun0/disc
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           33 Oct  3 19:32 sdb ->
scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/disc
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           34 Oct  3 19:32 sdb1 ->
scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/part1

sd:
total 0
drwxr-xr-x    1 root     root            0 Oct  3 19:18 ./
drwxr-xr-x    1 root     root            0 Jan  1  1970 ../
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           36 Oct  3 19:22 c1b0t3u0 ->
../scsi/host1/bus0/target3/lun0/disc
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           36 Oct  3 19:32 c2b0t0u0 ->
../scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/disc
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           37 Oct  3 19:32 c2b0t0u0p1 ->
../scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/part1

So I can see that my device can now be accessed through /dev/sdb1 but I
don't get any dynamic mount icon on the desktop...

5) I switched on my digital camera
6) #ls -la /dev/sd*
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           33 Oct  3 19:22 sda ->
scsi/host1/bus0/target3/lun0/disc
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           33 Oct  3 19:32 sdb ->
scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/disc
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           34 Oct  3 19:32 sdb1 ->
scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/part1
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           33 Oct  3 19:35 sdc ->
scsi/host3/bus0/target0/lun0/disc
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           34 Oct  3 19:35 sdc1 ->
scsi/host3/bus0/target0/lun0/part1

sd:
total 0
drwxr-xr-x    1 root     root            0 Oct  3 19:18 ./
drwxr-xr-x    1 root     root            0 Jan  1  1970 ../
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           36 Oct  3 19:22 c1b0t3u0 ->
../scsi/host1/bus0/target3/lun0/disc
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           36 Oct  3 19:32 c2b0t0u0 ->
../scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/disc
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           37 Oct  3 19:32 c2b0t0u0p1 ->
../scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/part1
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           36 Oct  3 19:35 c3b0t0u0 ->
../scsi/host3/bus0/target0/lun0/disc
lr-xr-xr-x    1 root     root           37 Oct  3 19:35 c3b0t0u0p1 ->
../scsi/host3/bus0/target0/lun0/part1

So I can see that my device can now be accessed through /dev/sdc1 but I
don't get any dynamic mount icon on the desktop...

Note: I saw the dynamic_mnt_camera icon twice but how it appears and
what triggers it seems random... also the 2 times I got it, clicking on
it triggered konqueror with nothing in it...
#ls -la /mnt/camera listed my memory stick correctly though.

I do not have any problem accessing sd devices, I can do without the
dynamic stuff, I just want to understand how it works.

Also is there a way to completely disable this feature?

Thanks
/Fred
