I'm not sure if this is the same type of bug (since yours seems to be specific to gnome apps) but there _used_ to be a bug that changed your cursor in on of the mandrake control center apps. I haven't yet run into it in 9.0, though, so I had thought that is was gone. My solution when that happened was usually to click around some more in the control center, and at some point it would change back.
