reiserfs can write up to 30 seconds after a program do some writing, so if something happens before the end of these 30 seconds (power outrage, hard lock, disk disconnection, reset, ...), all the metadata'll be correct once the journal is replayed on reboot but ... all files that weren't written because of the 30 seconds delay'll either be zeroed or randomed with current content of the disk sectors they got allocated to (but not written on). ext3 will garrant you this won't happen (at least in default journalizing mode)
