I have a notebook which is sometimes on the network with dhcp and sometime in standalone with a modem. When i boot on linux without being connected to the network i have to wait for 5 minutes for dhcp to fail and the boot goes on ! I think this should be set up at the install with drakX. Something like "this is a notebook, let's configure two profiles : how do you connect when your at home ? at work ? etc..." Another detail : my network have a xfs font server -> the XF86Config file should be different if i'm on network and the xfs service should start only when i'm in standalone... The drakconf profiles doesn't talk about you nis domain, your NFS mount points, and really, this should be great if Mdk makes a great interface to that : linuxconf is really ununderstandable. Notebooks ARE becoming more and more importants in enterprise and home networks : i hope this is a priority at mandrake to provide good tools for notebooks users in next release... Thanks, Henri
give me this error, not even when it is physically disconnected from the dhcp network.
I was thinking it might be the track network card id, but then remembered that it isn't enabled.

I don't understand your answer, sorry ! what is it you're naming "track network card id" ? The mac address ? My DHCP does use it, is it the reason of the pb ? That would be strange ! Can you explain differently please ?
Anyway, the main subject is not only about this dhcp pb, but that i 'd like to be able to create EASILY profiles during install and/or from drakconf...linuxconf is really two difficult to understand for users who hasn't time to be a "bidouilleur" :)
