I am looking at doing an installation on a laptop with display on a remote machine. At present I am doing an hd install booting a kernel and hd initrd from lilo.
Is there any way of allowing stage2 to start with display on a remote machine with a PCMCIA NIC? I have a 3COM 589C, using 3c589_cs. I see that in stage2 I can modprobe 3c589_cs after yenta_socket is loaded, but it's already too late by then. FYI, the actual purpose of this is to try and demo the winbind setup during install at a linux conference (http://www.lua.org.za/event). I need a Win2k Server to join the machine to, and was hoping I could show the installation bits on the Win2k Server (I have X running on the 2k Server box) instead of switching between the displays. But, I don't want to spend too much more effort on this, so if' it's not easy, I will take a KVM switch with ... One note, while doing some tests in preparation for this, I noticed that an auto-install (generated by an install which did get the NIC loaded) doesn't load PCMCIA at all (maybe since PCMCIA isn't used to access any storage devices, which is where PCMCIA is loaded in normal install), and as such, network config fails, and PCMCIA isn't set to start at boot either.
