I do not know much about recording, as I never use it. But for a start: do not use kmixer, use alsamixergui, and spend a few hours to try all ridiculously named mixer settings. Please report if you get it working. I hope to compile a sort of default mixer setting to get this sort of thing working out of the box next release.
