Yes.  That was on a older mandrake so I tried display :0 on a mandrake 9.0 system.
Same error.  I thought maybe there was a setting in msec that might be effecting 
this, so I started up draksec.  Under the Systems Options tab I changed 
'allow_x_connections' from default (LOCAL) to ALL.  No change.  I restarted X 
thinking that maybe it needed to read the setting as it started. No change.

I would love to get it working here too.  Thanks for your suggestion.  Do you have 
any other ideas?  One thing that would be helpful is if I could stop the install 
from bailing out so that I could try some things by hand.  Do you know how I can 
do this?  As it stands it doesn't give me a chance to do anything at the console.
