Some real businesses need multi-media. We do (animations from
simulations). In fact, that's probably one of the big reasons we don't
make more use of OpenOffice, and have to use Powerpoint for some
presentations.
I know one company that make very heavy use of multimedia apps, to
create presentations for selling thier stage / set designs. the company
owner has told me that as soon as viable options for multimedia exist
for linux they will review their os decision.

the majority of businesses need some sort of multimedia application for
the "sales" end of the business. to sell thier product / service.
When I say fancy multimedia, i was talking of dvd, quick time and flash.

Power point is not really multimedia, at least not the way I think of it.

I agree there is a lack of good software for presentation.
ooimpress is almost as good as powerpoint, but there is no templates given ( maybe on the internet ), and, it could be far better, with style sheet, and other thing. The same goes for kpresenter.

actually, flash / quicktime are the best multimedia tools for selling, they make powerpoint presentations look backwards and clunky.
the "fancy" multimedia is where the prospective clients will be wowed into buying your service / product.
"you put together such a fantastic presentation your product / service should be great"
that is the way they think.
