Ok, now that the build has finished, I see that there are a bunch of warnings:

$ grep -i warning nohup.out | wc --lines

don't know which ones are serious and which ones are harmless.
Most of them (more that 500) are "concatenation of string literals with __FUNCTION__ is deprecated", so these should be harmless (shouldn't they?).
There are warnings in i2c-id.h (redefined identifiers) and since the lock up was while capturing video maybe it's significant.
