Would it be hard to get urpmi to support/use rsync ?

Then the 22.5MB files would not be so hard to download,
and you could keep using urpmf.

Example:
I have a 512kbit ADSL, with a theoretical maximum of 64kB/s
download speed. (IRL about 50 to 55kb/s)

When rsyncing the hdlist.cz I got a speed of:
about 450kB/s wich is 15.3MB in less than 35 secs

(compared to 15.3MB/55kB = about 286 secs)

When rsyncing the hdlist2.cz I got a speed of:
about 650 kB/s wich is 7.5MB in less than 12 secs
(compared to 7.5MB/55kB = about 141 secs)

Nice speedup ... ;-)

And the slower the line gets (modem/ISDN)
the better the "speed advantage" is.

Lets say a modem with a average dowload speed of 5kB/s,
it would result in:

rsyncing the hdlist.cz a speed of:
about 41kB/s wich is 15.3MB in 385 secs

(compared to 15.3MB/5kB = about 3146 secs,
  time saved: about 46 min)

rsyncing the hdlist2.cz a speed of:
about 59 kB/s wich is 7.5MB in 132 secs
(compared to 15.3MB/5kB = about 1551 secs,
  time saved: about 23 min)

Of course the speedup is not always the same,
but still, I thing it would save bandwidth and time...

What dou you all think about this?

Thomas
