Product: man-pages
Component: man-pages
Summary: man page incorrectly states where the program's output
is written
Version: 1.53-2mdk
Platform: PC
OS/Version: All
Status: RESOLVED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P2
AssignedTo: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
The man page for time(1) indicates that "When command finishes, time writes a message
to standard output giving timing statistics about this program
run." The message is actually sent to stderr, not stdout. This is the correct
behavior, since it is desirable to keep the command's output seperate
from time's. The man page should be changed to indicate that the output of time goes
to stderr.
