------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2002-12-07 20:30 ------- I don't know if it is related to the same problem but with kernel 2.4.20-1mdk my Mandrake Linux system will not boot. It hangs up after hdd probe. hde is an UDMA 66 hard disk. With kernel 2.4.19-16mdk there is no boot problem. However kernel 2.4.20-1mdk will boot if I remove hde drive. --------------- This is message file from boot with kernel 2.4.19-16mdk hda: IBM-DPTA-372050, ATA DISK drive hdb: YAMAHA CRW2200E, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive hdc: IBM-DTLA-307030, ATA DISK drive hdd: TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-M1302, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive hde: QUANTUM FIREBALL ST4.3A, ATA DISK drive ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14 ide1 at 0x170-0x177,0x376 on irq 15 ide2 at 0xb800-0xb807,0xb402 on irq 9 hda: 40088160 sectors (20525 MB) w/1961KiB Cache, CHS=2495/255/63, UDMA(33) hdc: 60036480 sectors (30739 MB) w/1916KiB Cache, CHS=59560/16/63, UDMA(33) hde: 8418816 sectors (4310 MB) w/81KiB Cache, CHS=14848/9/63, UDMA(33) Partition check: /dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0: p1 p2 < p5 p6 > Here is an extract from message file when booting 2.4.20-1mdk WITHOUT drive hde : PCI: PCI BIOS revision 2.10 entry at 0xf08c0, last bus=1 PCI: Using configuration type 1 ACPI-0508: *** Info: GPE Block0 defined as GPE0 to GPE15 ACPI: Interpreter enabled ACPI: Using PIC for interrupt routing ACPI: System [ACPI] (supports S0 S1 S4 S5) ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKA] (IRQs 3 4 5 6 7 9 10 *11 12 14 15) ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKB] (IRQs 3 4 5 6 7 9 *10 11 12 14 15) ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKC] (IRQs 3 4 *5 6 7 9 10 11 12 14 15) ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKD] (IRQs 3 4 5 6 7 *9 10 11 12 14 15) ACPI: PCI Root Bridge [PCI0] (00:00) PCI: Probing PCI hardware (bus 00) PCI: Probing PCI hardware PCI: Using ACPI for IRQ routing PCI: if you experience problems, try using option 'pci=noacpi' or even 'acpi=off' Limiting direct PCI/PCI transfers. isapnp: Scanning for PnP cards... isapnp: No Plug & Play device found Linux NET4.0 for Linux 2.4 Based upon Swansea University Computer Society NET3.039 Initializing RT netlink socket apm: BIOS version 1.2 Flags 0x03 (Driver version 1.16) apm: overridden by ACPI.
