This is an 800MHz Athalon, plenty fast, with a DSL Internet connection.
I'm not using any special lists, that I know of.
I type 'MandrakeUpdate' in a terminal. Nothing happens for 30sec. Then this is
displayed on the terminal:
examining synthesis file [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.Installation CD 1
(x86) (cdrom1).cz]
examining synthesis file [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.Installation CD 2
(x86) (cdrom2).cz]
examining synthesis file [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.International CD
(x86) (cdrom3).cz]
examining synthesis file [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.update_source.cz]
and a dialog comes up saying: "I need to contact the mirror...". I click OK.
Then I get the "Please wait..." dialogs (which, besides being un-informative,
don't re-draw themselves properly if they're hidden then brought back to the front.)
All of this is really alarming the first time. At any point, one might conclude
that the program had crashed.
