-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I have been working on some updates for the samba3 packages, and want some opinions on what to do with samba-vscan
Some background 1)Samba-vscan allows on-access scanning of files by samba, and will deny access (and in the latest version, inform the user by windows message that the file is infected) to infected files. It can be used with 5 commercial scanners (Sophos, Trend, MKS, Kaspersky and F-Prot) and the Java-based open-source OpenAntivirus. 2)samba-vscan must be compiled in a compiled samba tree, so we currently include samba-vscan in the samba SRPM, and you can enable the scanners by rebuilding, ie 'rpm --rebuild samba-2.2.7-3mdk.src.rpm --with sopphos' will build samba-vscan-sophos package with the rest of the samba RPMs. 3)Up to now, building most of the scanners required having the scanner software installed, however with samba-vscan 0.3.x this has changed 4)Now, all but the kaspersky scanner (requires a kaspersky lib) can be compiled without having the scanners installed, however at least with sophos or trend, the resulting scanner will only work with sophie or trophie installed respectively. Now, sophie and (I suspect) trophie require the scanner to be installed to compile, and will require the libs the scanner provides. So, is it possible to include the samba-vscan-sophos, samba-vscan-trend, samba-vscan-openantivirus, etc RPMs in contrib? It won't be possible to include sophie or trophie of course, so stuff won't work "out-the-box", but including the samba-vscan rpms would significantly reduce the amount of work involved. Of course, it may be an idea to include sophie and trophie in the commercial CDs, and possibly the samba-vscan-kaspersky (since kaspersky is in, but I haven't tested it yet). These issues apply to both samba 2.2.x and samba-3alpha (which is in contribs), but samba-3alpha may be more appropriate for testing these kinds of issues ... I have updated samba3 RPMs which are ready to go into contrib, once these issues are resolved ... Regards, Buchan P.S. Our order for Sophos just went through, in case you were wondering. - -- |--------------Another happy Mandrake Club member--------------| Buchan Milne Mechanical Engineer, Network Manager Cellphone * Work +27 82 472 2231 * +27 21 8828820x121 Stellenbosch Automotive Engineering http://www.cae.co.za GPG Key http://ranger.dnsalias.com/bgmilne.asc 1024D/60D204A7 2919 E232 5610 A038 87B1 72D6 AC92 BA50 60D2 04A7 -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQE99f1XrJK6UGDSBKcRAhy4AJ9mJCRIf8358TLcy2eZ+r+npYI++ACgg/8M J7vyCjdIv2kh7FmACtfqr1w= =j6Hn -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
