Just a 'me too'.
And I have no autohide nor anything. I have just the menu bar panel and
a normal panel at the bottom of the screen. When I log in, all the icons
in the lower panel are blank. As the icon passes over them (get hilited)
the icon comes up.

Just another note: when I log in, in the gnome splash screen, I see a ton
of 'feet' after the usual panel, metaticity, etc icons. I think there is
a foot per applet that Gnome launches, but before latest gnome that
was not happening. It looks like gnome-session launches applets as
standard login apps, instead of being the panel who loads them
(just a blind guess... if it gives any clue)
