$ rpm -q --requires rpm-build | grep c++ gcc-c++ I did not say it was not compiling, but I don't remember seeing these errors with 2.1.36. I am worry that some optimizations might not be set correctly because these tests fail. Octave is the kind of application were it can cause a significant difference. Are you sure you don't have these messages, that could be a clue.
