He was at the time, and I see no signs that beauracracy or politics have generally improved in the last 2000-plus years. Music carries a message, and skilled musicians can carry that message beyond words. To say that music can have no effect on one's beliefs is extremely naive. And of course, different people react differently. There's a very old saying which covers that: "one man's meat is another man's poison" - which dates from the days several hundred years ago when "meat" in English still meant food in general, rather than just dead animals. The dude's allowed to put whatever requests in his software he likes, even "please hang a rubber chicken around your neck while using this software" or "please bow toward Mecca and recite the Shaha'adah before each session", and as long as it's only requests - not demands - restricting distribution it's still GPL-compliant.
