But our troels.rsync6.2pl downloader from my web site does change the names of local RPMs about to be replaced by updates, but there have been NO complaints about the renaming logic. If you have had trouble, I would dearly like to know about it.
I do however run a set of fmirror scripts that more or less do the same thing. I have not added the english only part to them but that is easy enough.Where possible, rsync will only download changes and patch them in, hence is much faster than fmirror. I know of no problems with rsync.
As far as I am aware fmirror has no ability to exclude file names/patterns contained in a file, which would make English-only very clumsy.
