I noticed that in the syslog after setting msec level to 4 : 
Jan  7 07:00:21 spirit msec: Restricting chkconfig --add from rpm 
 
I was wondering if packages can still be installed correctly after that ? 
 
For example I noticed that portmap was not started after installing fam and it was 
effectively 
off when listing chkconfig --list portmap ...
