[Cooker] [9.1beta1] First graphical login fails

After the install, having selected "Start X at boot", gdm comes up as expected. But if I try to log on, the gdm prompt disappears, and then it looks like X restarts (screen goes black, then gdm login prompt reappears). If I try a second time, the login works fine.

I don't see any obvious errors in /var/log/syslog or /var/log/XFree.0.log, and nothing shows up in the xconsole window either.
