I have CUPS running as my print serving system. A while ago a cups backend was
added (pap). This file is indeed in /usr/lib/cups/backend/pap. If I (in export
mode) try to add a connected Apple Laserwriter 320 (which is an Appletalk
printer) in the printer list with the 'Enter the printer device URI' entry,
there is not pap:// entry. This is needed for the appletalk printer to work.
Netatalk is running. If I try to add the printer with cups (localhost:631), it
does show up as :Appletalk Laserwriter Lasertje (the latter is the hardware
coded name). So this works nicely. It would however be nice if this printer
could be automatically recognized by printerdrake. Maybe that someone could have
a look at this ? I unfortunately do not have programming skills, otherwise I'd
do it myself :)
