There are a number of issues:
1)xinetd config file
This would probably best be done by splitting saned into a seperate
package, that requires xinetd. An example xinetd config file is in the
saned man page.
2)Create a saned user
3)Add saned to /etc/services
4)Add host entries to /etc/sane.d/saned.conf
5)Ensure user saned will always have read/write access to the scanner
devices.

I had it working on an 8.2 box, but havent got it running again on 9.0
(after about half an hour, but maybe I should just copy my old configs ...).

Have a wizard, like the DNS client one, but that works, or something
like that.
