A couple of users at mandrakeexpert have the same problem, seems like it only
affects people who have certain settings, which make the routine that deletes
that files /etc/gtmp and /etc/ptmp unable to work.

description:
userdrake from the root command prompt seems to complete and exit without ever
starting its
gui. However, it does open /etc/password and create /etc/gtmp and /etc/ptmp. These
are diff
equal to /etc/group and /etc/password. If these are not deleted, starting userdrake
causes a little
dialog box to pop up saying those files exist so the password file must be in use.
