I think so. Stopping both portmap and xinetd services and then re-starting portmap before xinetd didn't help :(Just wondering : do you have portmap running correctly BEFORE starting xinetd ?
The FAM socket does seem to close up for some reason. Although FAM itself doesn't seem to lock up.
After looking though some of the gnome-theme-manager/gnome-control-center code, they use gnome-vfs calls to add file and directory monitors and then, I'm assuming, gnome-vfs makes the calls to FAM. So, I'm curious if gnome-vfs is somehow involved in the socket close up.
