in order for arts to less interfere with other sound apps:

1. don't set up the option "full duplex" in kde sound system arts I/O
configuration
full duplex option was known to prevent artsd to suspend

2. set up a little suspend time (30 sec) in kde sound system arts config

3. obviously dont set up sound events on kde that occur too often especially
window events

then you will be able to start sound app as soon as artsd has suspend

It would be nice that kde indicated more clearly when artsd is suspended other
that with a pop up when information or debug level of message is set in artsd
sound system configuration.

gnomemeeting requires a full duplex sound driver (alsa often offers this) to
work in sound recording mode correctly.

there is a sound wrapper (artsdsp) but I am unable to make sound recording of
legacy app work with it.
